I was only eleven years old when I read "MADOLDOOVA" the famous novel written by our greatest writer Martin Wickremasinghe for the first time.It is an interesting Children's adventure Story. This book is so popular that it has been translated into several foreign languages too. Madoldoova has become the most popular novel among the school children. It is full of joyful escapades of rural youth.here is the story in brief.  The main character of this story are upali and Jinna.We meet Upali Giniwella for first time as a motherless child of seven years. His mother died and after one year of her death, his father gets married again.the step mother is not a cruel women. But she does not not Understand the children's world and also she does not know how to look after a motherless child.

It is said that the parental love and affection is essential for both mental and physical development of a child. Upali does not get this love and affection. He feels himsef as an outsider. He is not interested in his studies. His father too does not understand the children's world.Grieved by all these incidents, Upali tries to seek solace from the outside world.jinna is his best friend. It is said that jinna is a distant relative of  Upali's family. Both jinna and Upali lead a number of escapades with the assistance of the other boys like Siripala and Dangadasa. Some of the escapades are Robbers, and Cadju raid.

Upali is an energetic, courageous and hardworking boy who loves adventure and the real adventure comes by when he journeys in to the sea with the fisherman.🐋 After the Cadju raid, upali and jinna leave home and find Work in a chena. Podigamarala Who is the owner of the chena teaches them how to  cultivate and also how to use a gun.After some time they go to madoldoova and Start cultivation there. At last they become successful famers.

He goes back to see his sick father and even helps his stepmother and sstepbrother.

We can learn many good qualities of  Upali through this novel. The most important lesson that is taught to us through this novel is that anyone can make progress in his or her life through hard work and dedication.
